On Saturday, November 23rd, the heart of New Romney witnessed a celebration like no other—the grand unveiling of the New Romney Town Obelisk. Positioned on the pavement opposite St. Nicholas’s Church, this remarkable monument now stands as a testament to the town’s enduring legacy and collective effort.
The event, brimming with community pride, was marked by a ceremonial unveiling by Councillor John Rivers, Mayor of New Romney. Speaking to a crowd of locals, visitors, and dignitaries, the mayor expressed his admiration for the collaborative spirit that brought the obelisk to life.

Months in the making, the obelisk’s creation was led by Yolanda Houston and her Teach Me team, who worked tirelessly alongside local residents, schoolchildren, and members of the cubs.
