Me and my children had a brilliant time, learned a lot and was given lovely refreshments! As well as making our own mosaic coasters, we also got to participate in the mosaic that will be displayed at Burmarsh Church! Thanks, Yolanda and team great job! 😊
Last year, the Romney Marsh Community created The Marsh Mosaics – a series of 10 beautiful new artworks, capturing the Marsh Churches and celebrating the unique heritage and wildlife of our area. Part of the Fifth Continent Landscape Partnership Scheme and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project involved 391 local participants aged 5 – 90, all guided by our very own Yolanda Houston.
Thanks to the generous support of The Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust the remaining four churches will be captured in mosaic this spring as we launch our free workshops to create four more mosaics.
Here you will discover the heritage craft of mosaic making and have some fun and laughter along the way. The courses will last for two hours and cover mosaic design and how this can bring imagery to life. You will start off by making a colourful coaster that you can take home. Then you will move on to adding some tiles to one of the Marsh Mosaics. No experience necessary and this fun workshop is suitable for ages 5+.
The workshops will take place outside in small socially distanced groups of a maximum of four to six people.
As you can see from Sharlene’s review above, you really will have a brilliant time.
Our sessions will be held at The Romney Marsh Visitor Centre from the 8th – 11th April 2022 and All Saints Church, Lydd on the 12th April.
