Eight sheep. Eight personalities. One extraordinary community art project!
Romney Marsh has always been famous for its sheep, but you’ve never seen a flock quite like this!
Meet the Romney Flock – eight spectacular sheep sculptures, from a daring smuggler and a smartly dressed Scout to a railway worker and a whole cast of colourful characters, each with its own story to tell!
Led by Teach Me Courses, this ambitious community art project has transformed eight ordinary sheep sculptures into extraordinary personalities, celebrating the people, places and fascinating heritage of our local area.
Ready, Set, Sheep!
Eight sheep. Eight destinations. Can you find the whole flock?
Each character has been specially designed to reflect the location it will call home, with imaginative costumes, quirky accessories and some brilliant little details!

Together, they’ll form the Romney Flock Heritage Trail, taking visitors on a sheep-spotting adventure through local landmarks, historic places and community favourites across Romney Marsh and Hythe.
Keep your camera handy – these characters are certainly not camera-shy!
Little Sheep, Big Smiles!
The larger sculptures weren’t the only sheep making an appearance!
As part of Heritage Open Days, we held two free community workshops at St Nicholas Church and Lydd Church, where visitors of all ages got creative making their very own miniature woolly sheep.
Using wool generously supplied by Romney Wools, everyone had the opportunity to get hands-on, create their own little character and celebrate the area’s centuries-old sheep-farming traditions.
Then, on Saturday 17th October, all eight larger sculptures came together for a special celebration at The Hub in New Romney!
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the finished flock, admire their incredible details and celebrate everyone who helped make the project happen.
Now, our eight colourful characters are heading off to their new homes, ready for the next chapter of their adventures!
And That’s Not All… Over 500 Mosaic Bricks!
Because eight extraordinary sheep weren’t quite enough, we’ve also been busy creating something rather special in Hythe!
The Romney Flock is one half of our wider community heritage project, alongside the Tide Tales Path at Oakland Park Bandstand.
What started as an ambitious plan to create 230 mosaic bricks turned into an incredible 500+ individually handcrafted mosaics, with schools, families, residents and community groups all getting involved!
Two completely different artworks, hundreds of creative contributions and a wonderful celebration of the places and people that make our communities special.
Thank Ewe, Everyone!
What an incredible project this has been!
A huge thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves, shared their creativity, volunteered, organised, supported or helped bring these artworks to life.
From eight sheep with larger-than-life personalities to more than 500 colourful mosaic bricks, we’ve created something that will be enjoyed and discovered for years to come.
The flock is heading out across Romney Marsh and Hythe. Eight sheep, eight places to explore – how many will you find?
